Spring Cleaning Your Bedroom
Who doesn't love a good spring cleaning? And the bedroom is a perfect place to start. Even though this winter wasn't a long one, it feels good to open up the windows to that crisp spring air and freshen things up. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to spring clean your bedrooms.
Grab All Your Supplies
Make sure you have everything you need before you start cleaning because every time you have to leave the room is just an opportunity for you to get off track. Before you start cleaning, make sure you open up the windows for some fresh air. Even if it's a little cold, you'll be happy to work in the cool air. Here's a rundown on all the supplies you need in your basic cleaning kit:
- Microfibre cleaning cloths
- Multi-purpose cleaning spray
- Extendable duster
- Dish soap
- Old toothbrush
- Vacuum
- Mop
- Refuse bags
30-Minute Declutter
Start with a quick tidy-up to make sure that you're able to move in and out of the room easily. Grab a couple of boxes and throw in everything that doesn't belong in the bedroom. It might sound a little crazy, but take any dirty laundry to the washing machine to get that out of the way whilst you clean.
Start With All The Surfaces
Generally speaking, you want to start cleaning at the top of the room and work your way down from one side of the room to the other. This is the fastest way of getting things done and eliminates you from having to go back and forth.
Clean the Windows and Curtains
Start with taking down your curtains and wiping down your blinds. If possible, give your curtains a good wash. Give your windows a good clean (read our earlier blog post) and make sure you clean the window tracks too.
Flooring
If you have a carpet, it's time to bring out the vacuum. If you have tiles or hardwood flooring, then give them a good wash too. Make sure you get underneath all the furniture, especially the bed.
Mattress and Bedding
Strip down your bed to the mattress and remove all the linen. If possible, remove the mattress cover and wash it in hot water to kill all the dust mites. If you can't do this yourself, then visit your local laundromat.
