The Pantry Reset: A 15-Minute Fix for Pantry Clutt

Open your pantry door and take a quick look around. :)

How many half-open packets, duplicate snacks and mystery ingredients can you spot?

Most pantry shelves tell the same story. The things you use every day sit at the front, while forgotten ingredients slowly disappear into the back corners. A packet of rice here. Three open bags of pasta there. A cereal box that's somehow been open since last winter.

This month, we're tackling pantry clutter with a simple reset that saves space, reduces waste and makes everyday cooking a little easier.

Step 1: The Grand Eviction

Take everything out.

Yes, everything.

It might feel like a lot, but you can't organise what you can't see. Clear a section of your counter and empty the shelf completely.

As you go, group similar items together:

Grains
Pasta, rice, quinoa and couscous.

Baking Essentials
Flour, sugar, baking powder, chocolate chips and all the extras.

Snacks
Crackers, biscuits, chips and lunchbox favourites.

Breakfast Items
Cereals, oats and pancake mixes.

Canned Goods
Soups, vegetables, beans and pantry staples.

Seeing everything in one place usually tells you two things very quickly: what you have too much of, and what you forgot was there.

Step 2: Give Everything a Home

Once you know what you have, decide where everything belongs.

The items you reach for most often should earn the best shelf space. Creating simple zones makes everyday cooking faster and helps stop clutter from creeping back in.

Breakfast Zone

Cereals, oats, preserves and protein powders.

Snack Zone

A dedicated spot for grab-and-go favourites.

Dinner Prep Zone

Pasta, rice, cooking oils and spices.

Baking Zone

Flours, sugars, extracts and all the ingredients that come out when the baking mood strikes.

The goal isn't perfection.

The goal is knowing where things live.

Step 3: The Moment Everything Changes

Most pantry problems aren't actually pantry problems.

They're packaging problems.

A half-open pasta packet flops over.

The cereal box tears.

The rice disappears behind everything else.

Before long, you're buying another packet because you can't find the first one.

Moving dry goods into containers immediately solves half the battle.

You can see what you have.

You know what needs replacing.

Food stays fresher for longer.

And your shelves start working with you instead of against you.

That's why we're such fans of the LocknLock Interlock range.

Crazy Organised Tip

Store similar dry goods in matching containers.

Not because it looks good on Instagram, but because it's easier to see what you have, what you're running low on and where everything belongs.

What We're Using

For this reset, we're using the LocknLock Interlock containers.

What we love most is the stacking system.

The containers lock together vertically, making better use of shelf height without towers of containers wobbling every time somebody reaches for the oats.

The airtight seal helps keep dry goods fresher for longer, while the clear sides make stock-taking almost effortless.

Perfect for everything from oats and cereal to pasta, rice and baking ingredients.

One Shelf at a Time

One shelf is enough.

You don't need to organise the whole pantry in a weekend.

Start with one shelf. Finish one shelf.

That's how organised homes happen.
