5 Rules for decluttering your kids bedroom

Involve your kids from the beginning

This is the first and most important rule: work with your kids, not around them. You might be surprised, but your kids really do want to participate and are excited to be involved. If your kid is involved in the organizing, they’ll feel greater ownership over the project and more inclined to keep things tidy and organized.

Give your permission to let go of stuff they don’t want

Kids need to know that it’s okay for them to say no to stuff that they don’t want.

Use a big plastic container for temporary storage

A big clear plastic container is perfect for teaching young kids to pick up after themselves. It works for everyone because that way you don’t have to go out of your way to immediately put things away in their rightful storage spaces.

Start from the bottom up (literally)

Start on the ground. That’s where they are. Make sure you put everything in places that they can see and easily reach. That way it will be easier for them to put everything back there themselves.
