3 Easy Christmas Crafts For Kids
It's time to embrace the festive spirit of the season! Christmas crafts are a great way to entertain your little ones while letting them release their creativity.
Paper Plate Christmas Tree
Supplies Needed:
- Paper plates (1 per tree)
- Clear tape
- Green paint
- Glue
- Pom Poms
Instructions:
To make the cone shape, you will need to cut a chunk out of your paper plate. Find the center and cut out a wedge. We cut out an entire quarter of our plate. Roll the plate into a cone shape and seal with tape. Since you will be painting the cones, keep all the tape on the inside. If you find you need tape on the outside, wait until your paint is dry before taping it down.
Paint your cone green. Sometimes it's fun to mix things up and paint on a different shaped object.
After the paint dries, glue on all your pom poms. We had a bag full of pom poms and thought they were a fun addition. Have fun decorating and don't hold tight to the pom pom suggestion. If your kids have another suggestion, let them go for it!
It's all in the process and not the finished product.
Cinnamon Stick Christmas Ornaments
Supplies Needed:
- Long cinnamon sticks
- Assortment of ribbons
- Scissors
- Glue
- Spray starch and an iron
- Twine
Instructions:
Start by cutting pieces of ribbon in lengths of 9-10 inches. You will need six for each ornament and a little extra for the ribbon at the top.
Tie 6 pieces of ribbon around your cinnamon stick. At this point, lightly spray your ribbon with spray starch, and with your iron set on low, iron your ribbon strips to help them be stiff and stand out nicely. If you have any kind of plastic or rubber embellishments on your ribbon, be very careful when ironing so they don't melt.
Next, with your scissors, start from the end that you want the top and cut down towards the bottom of the tree at a diagonal, making the ribbon longer at the bottom. This makes it so much easier than tying a tiny little piece of ribbon at the top. Repeat on the other side.
Cut out the desired length of twine for your hanger. Place a dollop of glue at the top of your tree and secure the ends of your twine to the cinnamon stick.
Tie a small bow with the desired color of ribbon and glue it over the bottom of the twine pieces to cover.
Wait until the glue is cool and dry before hanging on your tree.
Christmas Stocking Craft
Supplies Needed:
- Printable stocking pages
- Crayons
- Stickers
- Markers
- Wool
- Punch
- Tape
- Scissors
Instructions:
Print the stockings off. You will need a front and a back. Cut the stockings out. If your child is old enough, they could help with this step, otherwise cut them out ahead of time.
Hole punch each marked dot. If your child is old enough, they can help with this part.
Decorate the stockings! The fun part! Let your child go to town. The back of the stockings are blank so you can add handprints or doodles from your child if you want.
Thread the stocking. Wrap tape around one end of the wool and let your child thread it through.
